WELCOME ADDRESS FROM THE RECTOR FOR THE 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
Dear esteemed students, dedicated staff, and the wider public,
It is with profound honour and genuine delight that I welcome you all to Federal Polytechnic Ugep, a citadel of technical excellence, innovation, and character. Whether you are a returning student, a fresher stepping into this academic family for the first time, a valued member of staff or a partner in our community, you are now part of an institution that is resolutely committed to shaping skilled, ethical and globally competitive graduates for Nigeria’s sustainable development.
As we begin this session, I wish to restate our shared vision. We aim “to foster a world‑class academic environment where innovation, academic excellence, and practical skills converge”. Our mission is equally clear. We will “deliver high‑quality education in science, technology and entrepreneurship while building strong partnerships with industry, government and communities”. In essence, we intend to produce not just graduates but problem‑solvers and job creators.
To turn this vision into reality, our strategic plan for 2026 to 2030 rests on four unwavering pillars.
First, we focus on academic excellence. We will continuously review and update our curriculum to align with industry trends and NBTE standards. New programmes in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and digital entrepreneurship will be developed, and we shall pursue full accreditation with diligence. A dedicated accreditation task force will ensure that every course meets national benchmarks.
Second, we prioritise infrastructure and ICT development. My administration will invest in high‑speed campus‑wide internet, smart classrooms, e‑learning platforms, and modern laboratories. We are upgrading our library into a hybrid model that blends traditional books with digital resources. Furthermore, we shall install state‑of‑the‑art surveillance and access control systems to keep our community safe.
Third, we emphasise entrepreneurship and research. We are establishing an entrepreneurship development centre complete with mentorship, incubation programmes, and seed funding for student‑led ventures. In addition, our consultancy services directorate will commercialise research outputs, generate internally generated revenue, and link classroom theory to real‑world challenges. As a philosophical reminder, the future does not belong to those who wait; it belongs to those who create. Every student will therefore graduate with at least one marketable skill.
Fourth, we dedicate ourselves to staff and student welfare. A motivated workforce and a healthy student body are the bedrock of any great institution. Consequently, we shall implement comprehensive healthcare services, staff training and development schemes, transparent promotion systems, and sporting facilities that promote physical fitness and teamwork. A harmonious town‑gown relationship will also be cultivated through regular dialogue, community projects, and shared security initiatives.
To our dear students, I charge you to embrace discipline, creativity, and hard work. Attend lectures punctually, obey institutional regulations, shun all forms of vice, and take full advantage of the ICT resources, workshops, and entrepreneurial hubs being put in place. To our dedicated staff, I assure you of an open‑door, collaborative leadership style that values your ideas, supports your professional growth, and rewards excellence. To the public and our host community, we see you as indispensable partners. Together, we shall drive socio‑economic transformation through technical education.
In closing, let me emphasise that this polytechnic belongs to all of us. With transparency, accountability, and collective effort, we will build Federal Polytechnic Ugep into a centre of excellence that Cross River State and, indeed, Nigeria will be proud of.
Once again, welcome.
I wish every student, staff member, and stakeholder a safe, productive and fulfilling 2025/2026 academic session.
